When Irmgard becomes pregnant of Georg, a free love disciple, she decides, for the sake of her child, to pretend they are married. Years later Irmgard is trying to escape John, who is obsessed with her. In the mountains she finds a stranger willing to protect her.

Among other Christmas gifts, Edgar receives a tool chest containing a little saw. While he is out displaying some of his other presents to the boy next door, little brother Charlie saws up everything in the house, furniture, hats, and at length attempts operations on the cat. Edgar gets the blame, and is being kept from his sweetheart's party as punishment, when Charlie's guilt is discovered. This film is presumably lost.

Sophy, a kitchen maid, has her fortune told by a gypsy, who sees something shiny over Sophy's head: a sword, or perhaps a crown. Sophy then sets out for Paris, where she gains employment with the Zerkovitches. As war breaks out, she returns with them to Kravonia. There, Sophy meets Crown Prince Sergius and saves him from assassins, who plot to overthrow the dynasty and place Alexis, the son of the ailing king's wife, on the throne.
