Smithy (1924)

After being discharged from the 372nd infantry, on account of a bean shortage, smithy seeks employment. He finds a job on a construction site, where he helps to build a house, and soon causes havoc amongst the other workers. The construction company owner leaves for a week, and tells his secretary to send a letter to Mr. Smith telling him to complete the construction of the house while he (the owner) is away. The letter is accidently sent to Smithy who manages to complete the house. When the owner returns the house is complete, and Smithy is commended until the last support beam is removed...

Paris (1924)

Jean Fleury, a young engineer who has designed a revolutionary engine for the Revoil motor company, is engaged to Aimée Valois, a seamstress, his neighbor across the hall. But the charming young lady is hired one day by a nightclub and lets herself be lured by the easy life in Paris. So much so that, to Jean's great distress, she breaks up with him. But, along with time, Aimée gets tired of her vain and frivolous lifestyle and comes back to Jean.

Directed in 1924 by Emil Harder, a former Swiss baker who emigrated to the United States and converted to cinematographic art, the film aims to retrace the founding of the Swiss Confederation on the model of The Birth of a Nation by D. W. Griffith (1915). The first major production in the history of Swiss cinema, it was initiated by the company Sunshine-Film through a fundraising campaign in the columns of the Amerikanische Schweizer-Zeitung.
